ALL SAINTS FEAST: Catholic faithfuls charged to keep their faith alive in the face of unbecoming challenges

As Catholics all over the world mark the feast of All Saint also known as All Hallow today November 1st, the densely populated Catholic community within the Owerri Arch diocese was not left out.

According to wikipedia, from the 4th century, feast commemorating all Christian martyrs  were held in various places, on various dates near Easter and Pentecost. In the 9th century, some churches in the British Isles began holding the commemoration of all saints on 1 November, and in the 9th century this was extended to the whole Catholic church by Pope Gregory IV.

In his sermon to commemorate the feast, the Parish Priest of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church Akwakuma Rev. Fr. Desmond Anukanti charged all Catholic faithfuls to strive to be among the Saints of God when their lives on earth are over.

He emphasized the need to always commemorate the feast day as it will help encourage Christian faithfuls knowing that there are people who fought the good fight of faith and are now called saints in Heaven, so it is a feat any good christian can achieve as it is the will of God that we all be with him some day.

He charge the congregation to keep the faith even in overwhelming unbecoming challenges facing the world over, keeping in mind that the Saints we celebrate now once faced difficult challenges as humans

This feast day is recognized as a holy day of obligation in the Catholic Church and all Catholic faithfuls are always encouraged to attend mass. Happy feast day to all Catholic faithfuls.
