Owerri basketball classic takes center stage as semi finals, final games holds Dec 8th
The show down of the Semi finals and final games of the first edition of Owerri Basketball Classic will go down today at the Dan Anyiam stadium in Owerri Imo State.
The game which is emotionally followed by Imo State born Basketballers across the world because of the definition of the classic in honoring the great basketball icons from the state, who have been forgotten or not been remembered in the past.
This in turn has made them to invest in other parts of the country.
By virtue of Owerri basketball classic, they can now be remembered and never again will Basketball take the back seat in the history of sports development in the state.
Interacting with the media, chairman Imo State Basketball Association Mr Kelechi Anosike whose company Kulupan investment company ltd is bankrolling the classic recalled the good old days of Basketball in the state when basketballers compete with other sports but regretted that after a huge investment to qualify the state contingent to the last national Sports festival in Edo State, they were dropped because they were seen as a non medal hopeful's at the game as a result of lack of competition in the state which made it difficult for the authorities to assist their fitness despite the assurance from the chairman that he was ready to sponsor the team to the event because of his love and commitment to the game, and that they would return with a medal from the game.
He further commended the commissioner for youth and sports development Hon Dan Ogu for his commitment to the association after the games in Edo State which has made it possible for the state to have two playing court today.
In the semi finals, team Chidi will take on the team of the captain of the senior national team Ike Diogu 1 and team Jide takes on Team Bek squad in the second semi finals and then the final games which will come up between the winners by 1pm
