Ogu hopeful of success at National Para-Sports Festival

The Imo state Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Dan Chike Ogu has said the first edition of the National Para-Sports Festival in Abuja will produce another opportunity for the various para teams to write Imo state’s name in gold.

Speaking with the state’s athletes, the sports chief stated that the state was prepared for the fiesta with the Shared Prosperity Government of Governor Hope Uzodimma installing state of the art sporting equipment and construction of facilities as well as training of officials in a productive bid to develop sports in Nigeria's Eastern Heartland.

The Sports Commissioner said with the level of preparation and commitment shown by the athletes since the announcement of the showpiece by the sports minister, the state is sure of podium appearances.

The maiden edition of the National Para-Sports Festival is expected to commence on April 9-15, 2022, in Abuja.

Fifteen para-sports namely para-powerlifting, para-athletics, para-table tennis, deaf sports, para-soccer will feature at the games.

Others are wheelchair tennis, para-badminton, para-canoe, sitting volleyball, wheelchair basketball, amputee football, para-swimming, para-taekwondo and para-shooting.
