Imo Sports Commisioner graces Ifedi Unity Cup final as Umunakanu wins five million Naira

The Imo state Honourable Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon Dan Chike Ogu graced the final match of the Ifedi Unity Cup between Umunakanu and Ikpe Nsu in Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of Imo state.

The Sports Commissioner who ably represented His Excellency, Dist. Sen. Hope Uzodimma, the Executive Governor of Imo State at the grand finale that ended in a two-two draw with Umunakanu lifting the golden trophy after winning the penalty shootout, used the occasion to unveil the widely commended Heartland Football Club of Owerri jersey which was presented to the sponsor of the football tournament, the youthful Ambassador Ifeanyi Kingsley Abazie.

After performing the kickoff ceremony, Hon. Ogu congratulated the organisers of the competition for the successful hosting of the tournament which he said was as a result of the adequate security arrangement put on ground by Governor Hope Uzodimma during before and during the festive period for Imolites coming home for Christmas celebration as well as construction and reconstruction of sports facilities across the state.

The Commissioner further said he is "delighted because such competitions like this has ensured youths across the eleven wards of Ehime Mbano are able to take their minds away from crime and other form of restiveness while participating actively in the competition and promoting friendship, peace and unity."

He praised the organisers led by Hon. Eddy Onyeocha, the chairman of the Local Organising Committee, Mr Chika Agbaghara, Hon. Jude Oguka, Uchenna Ikekwe, among others who ensured the successful completion of the tournament while pledging the state government's readiness to partner with Ambassador Ifeanyi Kinsley Abazie to ensure that the best players discovered during the competition are enrolled into the state government owned Heartland Football Club.

The Honourable Commissioner, Dan Ogu, with assistance from former Super Eagles Captain and Assistant Coach, Joseph Yobo, the General Officer Commanding 82 division of the Nigeria Army, Enugu, and the sponsor, Ambassador Ifeanyi Kinsley Abazie, presented the golden trophy to the captain of the wining side, who while receiving the trophy on behalf of Umunakanu thanked Ambassador Ifeanyi Kinsley Abazie for hosting the tournament with cooperation from the shared prosperity government of Hope Uzodimma.

Other guests who attended the epoch making event are, Chief Tony Chukwu (Onweihekariri Chukwu), HRH Eze Akagu, High Chief Emeka Obimeshile (Akusinachi), amongst other notable personalities.
