FUTO kick-start VC's Football Tournament

The Eighth Substantive Vice-Chancellor (VC) of FUTO in the person of Professor Mrs. Nnenna N. Oti, on Friday 4th March 2022, graciously kicked off the Opening Ceremony of the VC Cup Tournament on the campus being organized by the Students' Union Government (SUG) of the University.

The event, which took place at the FUTO pitch at 3pm prompt as scheduled, was graced by numerous personalities in the University.

Prof. Oti, who was flanked by the other Principal Officers of FUTO, was suitably well-kitted for the outing as part of her tradition, which showcases her ever-readiness to fit in any occasion she is found present.

The ever-dynamic and cheerful VC, in practical terms, assured the students that she was always ready to attend to any of their needs, provided it is required towards their future pursuits.

Earlier in the ceremony, upon her entry into the arena billed for the event, the students - in their bid to grant her a resounding welcome - were seen carrying various placards bearing different write-ups, signifying their collective outpouring love for the workaholic VC, who they described as "Our Mummy in Whom we are well Pleased".

In his Opening Speech, the Director of Sports (DOS) of the FUTO SUG, Comr. Menkiti Patrick who commenced by appreciating the VC for her motherly supports and contributions thus far towards the growth of sporting activities in the University, elatedly informed the gathering that the ongoing tournament was in preparation to the upcoming Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA) competitions.

He further stated that the FUTO teams, comprising Football and Athletics, among others, qualified for the long-awaited competitions, hence solicited for more supports from other well-meaning stakeholders and entities to enable them participate actively in the events.

The 26th NUGA Competitions, which will be hosted by the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Akoka, is scheduled to commence on 16th March and end on 26th March, 2022. It's noteworthy that about 10,000 students across the federation are expected to be present throughout the 11-day tournament.

In his Speech, the Dean of Students' Affairs, Prof. C. E. Orji told the Management and staff present that the teams had really worked hard to earn their qualifications and current status.

Prof. Orji went ahead to say that the numerous supports of the VC had hitherto been remarkable, as he enjoined the students to put more efforts in the sporting endeavour in a bid to earn more laurels.

The highlight of the outing was the 'Kicking of a Football' by the amiable VC, Prof. Nnenna Oti.
