The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), has appointed Friday Akpara as the Agency’s new Zonal Commander, Imo zone.
The appointment is contained in a statement issued to newsmen in Owerri by the Assistant Media Officer, Imo Command of the NDLEA, Mr Aloysius Nworisa and made available to newsmen in Owerri on Tuesday.
Recall that the Imo zone of the NDLEA covers Imo, Abia and Anambra States.
Nworisa said before his appointment, Akpara, an Assistant Commander-General of Narcotics (ACGN), had served as Deputy Director, Projects and Maintenance, National Headquarters.
He also served as Commander, Idiroko Special Area Command and Assistant State Commander, Niger and Delta states consecutively.
He added that the creation of the Imo zone by the Chief Executive was part of efforts to tackle the increasing waves of drug abuse, trafficking and criminality in the South South-East geo-political zone.
“The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, NDLEA, Brig.-Gen. Buba Marwa has appointed Barr Friday Akpara as the new Zonal Commander for the Imo zone.
“Akpara, an Assistant Commander-General of Narcotics will embark on a tour of Abia, Imo and Anambra states where he will mobilise state and non-state actors as well as stakeholders against drug abuse and trafficking and their attendant consequences.
“He will also visit members of the media in Abia, Imo and Anambra with a view to seeking solidarity from the media in the fight against drugs “, he said.
