The National Association of Imo State Students, NAISS, newly elected national executives were officially inaugurated yesterday, Saturday, 9th of October,2021 at the Imo Concord hotel.
The inauguration started with an opening prayer by Ven. Dr. Ferdinand E. Mbalusi, followed by opening remark by the chairman of the occasion: Former S.A. to the Governor on youth Affairs - Hon Emma Duru.
It was proceeded by the introduction of the Special Guest of Honor; The deputy Governor of Imo State, ably represented by the Commissioner of Youth and Sports, Hon Dan Ogu, dignitaries and other invited guests.
The Special Guest of Honor during his speech admonished the newly elects to always have the interest of the students at heart, affirming the prowess of this government as being the first to attract representation by the Deputy governor of Imo state. He pledged to always support the student body as they are the future leaders.
The outgoing president, H/E comr. Anyaoha Tochi did the inauguration proper, as the newly elects took their oaths of allegiance to their new offices.
Thereafter, Hon Emma Duru went ahead and spoke at length, encouraging the student association to always tackle problems with the most innovative approaches. He presented a lot of ideas, promising his total commitment and dedication to the new government if they played their own part. He also promised to work with his friends in Canada to start up bursary only for NAISS members.
Ven. Dr. Ferdinand E. Mbalusi gave the word of the day, encouraging students to shun all anti-social vices and embrace sincere service to God as the Author and finisher of their faith. Other dignitaries in their speeches expressed optimism for the new leaders as they were impressed by what they had achieved in the first few months of their office.
The Legislative Arm led by the Senate President Rt. Hon. Alfred Jacinta was sworn in by the out- going speaker, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Dominion.
Presentation of certificates of service to the old executives and presentation of certificates of returns to the new executives by the Electoral chairman Comr. Emejuru Thaddeus followed . All the newly elected chapter presidents were also inaugurated as senators of NAISS worldwide
The Traditional Arm led by HRM Eze Orji Ifeanyi was inaugurated by the Eze, thereafter, coronation proper and transfer of crown by the traditional elders ensued.
In his vote of thanks on behalf of the newly elected national executives, the President, Comr. Umukoro Marvis Udechukwu expressed his gratitude to everyone who graced the occasion.
It marked a new beginning for all Imo state students, as the mantle of leadership was officially passed down to the new sets of executives. It was a colourful one as it saw men and women of different calibres grace the occasion. In addition, every tertiary institution in Imo state was represented. The inauguration came to close with the cutting of the unity cake.
