FUTO holds her 39th Matriculation Ceremony
It was joy and happiness as Federal University of Technology Owerri held her 39th matriculation ceremony on Thursday, 8th of October, 2021 for the institution's newly admitted students.
The event which held at the University's Matriculation ground, beside Access bank in the main campus attracted parents, siblings, guidance, friends and well wishers of the matriculants from all walks of life within and outside the country.
The chairman of the occasion, Professor (Mrs.)Nnenna N. Oti, the Vice Chancellor gave her welcome speech
She said "As an age-long statutory academic tradition, matriculation marks the formal admission of new students into the university".
A total of 5,851 candidates who were offered provisional admission and have been duly registered were officially inducted as class of 2020/2021 of the great academic institution, to undergo a five/six year study programme that will lead to the award of Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech), Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.), Bachelor of Agricultural Technology (B.Agric), Doctor of Optometry (OD) and Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (M.B.B.S) degrees as the case may be.
The VC admonished the new students to rise above mediocrity and take their academic pursuit with great commitment and zeal.
The VC advised them to be cautious of the following lessons;

The Vice Chancellor, Professor Nnenna Nnannaya Oti admonished the matriculants to be of good behavior, to be good ambassadors of their homes and not to indulge in any act that will bring shame, regrets and sadness to their homes.
She stated that negative vices such as cultism, prostitution, arm robbery, drug abuse and examination malpractices are not allowed in the institution and urged them to make their studies their primary aim.
She said that the management of the institution will not hesitate to discipline any student that goes against the rules and regulations of the school.
Our correspondence who monitored the event also spoke to few of the new students gathered that their joy knew no bounds as they express their readiness to take their studies very seriously in order to make good grades.
Some other students said that though they weren't offered their 'dream courses', they will ensure that what was offered them get their best attention and promised to give it their best shoots.
Some of the parents who spoke to our man on ground advised the students to embrace skills while on campus in order to prepare themselves to be job makers and not job seekers while on campus.
Highlight of the day was the matriculation match and speeches by guest which includes the Chancellor of the institution immediately after the event guests of the matriculants received refreshment from there guest and photo session.
