The Executive Governor of Imo state, Senator Hope Uzodimma on Friday, presented the 2022 state budget to the State House of Assembly.
The budget christened THE PEOPLE'S BUDGET took into account the wishes and demands of Imo people as presented during the Local Government Area stakeholders meeting with the Governor earlier in the year.
For the first time in the history of the state, the proposed budget was submitted with the Medium Term Expenditure Framework to aid the House in their consideration.
Budget of Wealth Creation and Recovery has a total expenditure of 381.4 billion Naira which reflects a 5.3% decrease from the 2021 budget.
The budget has a capital expenditure of about 74.8% and Recurrent expenditure of about 24.2%.
Speaking at the presentation, Uzodimma enumerated most of his achievements since he assumed office, despite the peculiar situation he met in office. Situations like Covid 19 pandemic, Endsars protest and chief of them all, the insecurity bedeviling the state.
He appealed to members of the Assembly to give the budget the needed accelerated and speedy passage. He commended the House for working harmoniously with the Executive Arm.
In his address earlier, the speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Kennedy Ibe, noted that the harmoniously relationship being enjoyed by the Legislative and Executive arms in the state could be linked to fact that the Governor is an experienced Lawmaker himself.
He praised the governor for fighting insecurity head -on in the state and for recovery properties stolen by the past administrations. RT. Hon. Ibe promised speedy passage of the budget.
