The former Governor of Imo State and the Senator representing Imo West in the 9th Senate, Senator Rochas Okorocha has accused the the Imo state Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma of misinforming the Inspector General of police.
This is coming on the heels of the arrest of his former Chief of Staff and Governorship aspirant of the Action Alliance in the last general election, Uche Nwosu by the Nigerian Police force. Uche Nwosu who is married to Okorocha’s daughter was arrested on the 26th of December 2021 during a Thanksgiving mass in honour of his late mother.
In his words, Okorocha narrated how it was earlier presumed that Nwosu was abducted by unknown gun but it was later confirmed that it was security operatives “ I called the Commissioner of Police who have just confirmed to me few hours ago that the order came from Abuja, so I wonder if this order actually came from the IG and if it was, I am sure he was misinformed” Okorocha said.
He wondered what offense Uche Nwosu must have committed to warrant his arrest inside the Church “I am yet to see what kind of offense Uche Nwosu have committed to warrant this desecration of the Church and sporadic shootings that has left a lot of people injured
He went ahead to request the Federal Government and the Inspector General of Police look into the security concerns and threats to the lives of his family “I want to request for the first and last time that Security agencies, Presidency must look into what is happening in Imo State vis-a-vis the Government of Imo State and members of my family, this family has gone through a lot of insult and humiliation, threat to life from the Government of Imo State. But I am yet to understand what must have informed the level of misinformation that must have lead the IG to give such directives”
“I feel that enough is enough, Hope Uzodinma has being trying to get any member of my family in his wicked act of hatred,I have called all the persons concerned on this matter”
“ I don’t want to involve the Police , the Government of Muhammadu Buhari and the APC, this is one arrest too many as relates to members of my family” he added that there was no arrest warrant issued, “ there was no single arrest warrant on Uche Nwosu, it was like a kidnap”
In his response the Governor stated that Senator Rochas has no reason what soever to accuse his Government of having any hand in the arrest of Uche Nwosu if he is not feeling guilty.
The press release was given by the Commissioner for Information Mr. Declan Emelumba.“Imo State Government is aware of the very disgusting utterances that were made today by the former Governor of the State, Rochas Okorocha and his remarks looks clearly to us that he is in a panic, in frenzy because it looks like the laws is gradually closing in on him and the panic is expected because the guilty is always afraid. So one is not surprise how he is talking incoherently if you listen to him”
“He said he called the Commissioner, who said the order came from Abuja yet he is still accusing he State Government. Uche Nwosu is just an indigene of Imo State and a citizen of Nigeria and if has gone against the law, the police have every right to arrest him”
He therefore adviced Okorocha to wait for the police to do their job instead of giving out press releases to garner public sentiment if he is not guilty.
