Imo Speaker and the Success of APC in Ngor-Okpala Bye-Election
Before the emergence of Rt. Hon. Barr. Kennedy Ibeh, as the Speaker of Imo State House of Assembly, the absconded Ngor-Okpala House member, Hon. Tochukwu Okereke, who was elected on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), had stayed out of plenaries for a period exceeding the constitutional required time.
This was not only a breach of the electoral contract he had with the good people of Ngor-Okpala, but also rendered the constituency voiceless.
Surprisingly, no one made a serious move for the right thing to be done until the new leadership of IMHA ably led by Rt. Hon. Barr. Kennedy Ibeh came on board.
The Speaker, acting on a motion moved on the floor of the House, based on petitions from the constituents of absconded member, declared the seat vacant and ordered for a bye-election.
This action of Mr. Speaker was a show of love for the people of Ngor- Okpala who have lost substantial time, voice and benefit from Imo State House of Assembly.
He was bothered that Ngor-Okpala people had no representative in the House and he walked the talk, leveraging on constitutional provision. Today, the busiest local government area (L.G.A) in Imo State, is, Ngor-Okpala L.G.A.
On Saturday February 26, the good people of Ngor-Okpala elected their new House of Assembly member, Hon. Blyden Amajirionwu, of All Progressives Congress (APC). That election was a liberation of the people of Ngor-Okpala and reintegration into the legislatve grid.
We say Kudos to the people of Ngor-Okpala who came out to vote Okenze Blyden Amajirionwu of APC. Kudos to our governor, Sen. Hope Uzodinmma, who encouraged the people to cast their votes wisely. A very big thank you to the Speaker, Imo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Barr. Kennedy Chidozie Ibeh, the man who started it all and participated actively to ensure that his party succeeds. The deputy speaker, Rt. Hon. Chyna Amara Iwuanyanwu, other house members and the entire APC family in Imo state have done very well.
To the winner, Hon. Blyden Amajirionwu, we say congratulations!
