IMHA passes vote of confidence on Uzodimma for his developmental strides in the state
The Developmental strides of His Excellency Governor Hope Uzodinma has attracted the attention of the legislative arm of government. To this end, the Imo State House Of Assembly has commended Governor Hope Uzodinma for his exceptional strides in development, despite the security challenges in the state.
Moving the Motion, the Chief Sponsor, Hon Engr Johnson Duru and member representing Ideato South Federal Constituency expressed satisfaction with the way and manner Governor Hope Uzodinma Has piloted the affairs of the State, especially, with the infrastructural development and quality road construction going on across the three political zones in the state.
According to Hon Johnson Duru, "Imo State has witnessed a deluge of projects since the inception of the Governor's tenure in January 2020". He noted that His Excellency Governor Hope Uzodinma has embarked on massive quality construction of roads, Including the Owerri-Orlu road, Owerri-Okigwe road, MCC Uratta road, and many other roads across the state.
Not done, Hon Johnson Duru noted that Governor Uzodinma, a few days ago, was on Popular Channels Television to give account of his stewardship in the state, as well, gave his opinion on other matters of National importance, explaining that the governor did very well in the interview, wherein he showcased his versatility in leadership, visavis, experience, maturity, courage and progressiveness in leadership, which deserves commendation.
He went further to Describe Governor Uzodinma as the Nehemiah of the Bible, a leader who despite security challenges, has elected to develop His State with great speed, especially, the approved 135 roads to be constructed, at 5km Per LGA. He thereafter prayed the House to pass absolute and Implicit Vote of Confidence on the Governor for his outstanding performances and holding firm the 3R Mantra that has tremendously impacted meaningfully in the State , with cogent and verifiable records.
The laudable motion was seconded by Hon Chief Eddy Obinna, member representing Aboh Mbaise State Constituency.
The motion which was Co-sponsored by Hon Kanayo Onyenaechi, Hon Uju Onwudiwe, Hon Blyden Amajirionwu, Hon Dominic Ezerioha, Hon Eddy Obinna and Hon Emeka Nduka received overwhelming support. While Hon Dominic Ezerioha (Oru-west State Constituency) Commended the Governor for his developmental strides, especially on road construction, he maintained that the House would also speak out if the reverse was the case.
Also, supporting the motion, Hon Chigozie Nwaneri (Oru-east State Constituency) noted that as House Committee Chairman On Works, He Has Done Oversight on the following quality roads under construction, as follows, Omuma/Ukatta road, Mgbidi road, Naze road, Emmanuel College road layout axis, Christiana Hospital road, Elezieanya Cresent Ikenegbu Layout Extension, Ihechiowa Street (Ikenegbu Layout Extension), Fish-island road, etc. According to Hon Chigozie Nwaneri, " With what I have seen so far, I am impressed. The Members of the Opposition and Critics are in mourning mood because they have nothing to criticize the government for.
The Deputy Speaker and member representing Nwangele State Constituency, Rt Honourable Amarachi Chyna Iwuanyanwu, commended the mover of the motion. More importantly, he commended the Speaker (Rt Honourable Kennedy Ibeh) for presiding over the moving of the motion, and also commended the Governor for what he has achieved in two (2 ) years. Rt Honourable Amarachi Iwuanyanwu made reference to his colleague, Hon Philip Ejiogu (Owerri-north State Constituency), who despite being in opposition, commended the Governor for commissioning the Acharaugo Farms in his Community in Owerri-north State Constituency. Mr Capacity, as the Deputy Speaker is usually addressed as, noted that the leadership Ingenuity of Governor Hope Uzodinma made it possible for the State to be the least affected during the Covid-19 Pandemic, Including the Empowerment of 15,000 youths with Starter funding of N250,000.
On Sports development, Amarachi Chyna Iwuanyanwu noted that Cricket, Basketball and Badminton facilities in the State are one of the best in the Country, including the construction of Olympic Size Swimming Pool, courtesy of His Excellency The Governor, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodinma.
Rt Honourable Amarachi Chyna Iwuanyanwu further Commended Governor Uzodinma for the ongoing renovation work going on at the permanent site of IMHA, Including the Recovery of Kingsley Ozuomba Mbadiwe University, and positioning of ISOPADEC, which funds are responsibly being utilized.
In his contribution, the Majority Leader and member representing Owerri West State Constituency, Hon Kanayo Onyenaechi, blessed the mover of the motion, then declared that the governor should be celebrated for what he has been doing in the state, via Infrastructural development and quality road construction.
Hon Uju Onwudiwe, Njaba State Constituency, described the governor as a leader who opens his arms for everyone, maintaining that "Njaba is about the greatest beneficiary of road revolution in the state. Also, Governor Hope Uzodinma appointed Prof Chukwumaeze as Vice Chancellor of the Imo State University, a man known for excellence. Clearly, the glory of IMSU will bounce back". According to Uju Onwudiwe, " With the way Hope Uzodinma is going, in terms of Infrastructural development and quality road construction, I Prophesy that in 7years time, he will most likely beat the Historic Records of legendary Dee Sam Mbakwe".
Rt Honourable Collins Chiji, former Speaker and member representing Isiala Mbano State Constituency disclosed that "I have worked closely with three Governors, but none can be compared with Governor Hope Uzodinma. In my Constituency, there is a particular road in Amaraku nicknamed "Onongono Road", due to the fact that Government has come and gone, without anybody remembering the road. But Hope Uzodinma came and has reconstructed the road. The people of Isiala Mbano State Constituency therefore are in support of this Vote of Confidence being passed on the Governor". Unquote.
In his contribution, Hon Emeka Nduka (Ehime Mbano State Constituency), described the Governor as working for humanity. "With the establishment of Acharaugo Farms Settlement, Hope Uzodinma Has selflessly proved that Imo can work again. The Federal Government has indicated interest in the farm, and will convert it to a Research Centre. Unlike immediate past Governors, Hope Uzodinma is developing Imo State from Government House".
Hon Emeka Nduka further stated, "Imo Modern Shoe Industry is almost back, because the State Government paid off 100% AMCON debt. Therefore, the Vote of Confidence is accepted by the people of Ehime Mbano State Constituency.
According to Hon Chief Eddy Obinna, Aboh Mbaise State Constituency, "the motion under discussion is a laudable one. The facts are there. My colleagues have said it all. We have eyes, and we have seen the quality projects Governor Hope Uzodinma Has executed in the state. As Chairman On IGR, I witnessed the employment of over 2,000 Imo Citizens in the IGR. Also, the Judicial Officers have been employed, and Aboh Mbaise got some slots. He appointed an Mbaise Son, the Vice Chancellor of Kingsley Ozuomba Mbadiwe University, and currently, Ndimo are being employed in the institution. Adapalm has been reactivated, and is now producing at full capacity, thereby raising the internally generated revenue base of the State. Songhai farms will soon come alive, and it will be a major employment and revenue generating agency in the state. Governor Hope Uzodinma is a well prepared governor, and he has made governance less attractive, with his Approach and style. Therefore, I totally support the Vote of Confidence on the Governor.
In his contribution, Hon Solomon Anukam, member representing Owerri Municipal Constituency, revealed how in 2019, he wanted to propose a motion on bringing back Ekeukwu Owerri Market, which was (without human consideration) demolished in August 2017, but was stepped down. However, he said, " When Governor Hope Uzodinma came on board in 2020, he started the rebuilding of the market, and today, it is nearing completion. Owerre people are very grateful, and are in total support of this Vote of Confidence on the Governor.
In his contribution, the newly Sworn-In House Member for Ngor-Okpala State Constituency, Hon Chief Blyden Amajirionwu, Nmirioma Ngor-Okpala, he spoke with a Solemn Voice, reminding everyone that "for two years, Ngor-Okpala had no VOICE at the Imo State House Of Assembly, but today, we have a VOICE, made possible by Governor Hope Uzodinma". "Therefore, it will only amount to ingratitude if the people of Ngor-Okpala State Constituency, which I represent, fails to lend their voice in support of the motion". He pointed out that the pragmatic and fatherly role played by the governor ensured his emergence and eventual victory during the February 26, 2022 Bye Election.
Nmirioma Ngor-Okpala went further to applaud the governor for His commitment towards delivering on his Campaign promises to Ndimo, inspite of some politically motivated security challenges, Covid-19 Pandemic and other Social vices.
Hon Michael Crown Njoku, Ihitte/Uboma State Constituency spoke in the same line, supporting the motion. He specifically thanked the governor for making it possible for the Renovation of the Speaker's lodge, which has completely undergone renovation.
Before the vibrant Speaker of Imo State House Of Assembly, Rt Honourable Kennedy Ibeh put the motion for adoption, he religiously commended the Chief Sponsor of the motion, for his foresight and Initiative in bringing up the motion at this point in time. Speaker Kennedy Ibeh however added, "Distinguished Senator Hope Odidika Uzodinma is not an accident in Imo State, but came at the right time. He is a man who came by Divine Intervention, to revive our moribound industries and State Infrastructures. He is following the footsteps of legendary Dee Sam Mbakwe, a great leader who devoted his time and managerial sagacity to lay leadership foundation in Imo State".
In the absence of further commendation for or against the motion, the Rt Honourable Speaker, Barrister Kennedy Chidozie Ibeh, proceeded with the prayer of the motion.
Be it resolved by this Honourable House to pass a Vote of Confidence on the Governor for his exemplary leadership qualities, and for the great developmental strides being witnessed in Imo State today, despite the security challenges.
This was unanimously adopted, with no dissenting voice. Subsequently, the Speaker directed the Clerk of the Assembly to put up a letter conveying the House message to His Excellency The Governor.
Earlier before The above motion, a motion of urgent matter of public importance was brought up, chiefly sponsored by Hon Paschal Okolie (Orlu State Constituency).
In a bid to put a stop to the continued suffering of Imo People occasioned by arbitrary hike in the price of fuel in Petrol Stations, Hon Paschal Okolie, in his motion drew the attention of the House to the arbitrary hike in Premium Motor Spirit, PMS (Petrol), from the official price of N165 per litre to between N210 and as much as N250 per litre, and its attendant scarcity. Hon Paschal Okolie wondered why fuel stations would sale at various prices without anybody or agency checking the disparity.
Hon Paschal Okolie therefore called for the setting up of an Adhoc Committee to look into the problem, and proffer solution.
The motion was Seconded by Hon Michael Crown Njoku (Ihitte/Uboma State Constituency).
In his contribution, the Deputy Speaker, Rt Honourable Amarachi Chyna Iwuanyanwu, explained that Imo People irrespective of political party affiliation are suffering, because it appears nobody is supervising the Fuel Stations. According to the Deputy Speaker, "Let us put a stop to these sufferings, occasioned by scarcity of fuel, and its sale at different prices order than the approved price of N165 per litre.
Also, in his contribution, Hon Philip Ejiogu (Owerri North State Constituency), advised on the need to act fast, in order to halt the continued high price of fuel in the state.
Having heard the motion by Hon Paschal Okolie, and contributions of Honourable Members, the Rt Honourable Speaker, Barrister Kennedy Chidozie Ibeh, ruled that relevant agencies, in the Down Stream Sector, DPR, IPMAN, etc be invited to an Executive Session of the IMHA.
Also, an Adhoc Committee was set up and mandated to look into the problem, proffer solution and submit its report on 23/03/2022. It has Rt Honourable Amarachi Chyna Iwuanyanwu as Chairman, while members Include Hon Paschal Okolie, Hon Blyden Amajirionwu, Rt Honourable Chiji Collins and Hon Dominic Ezerioha.
