"Think of what you can do for Imo, not what Imo will do for you"- Dr. Ewelike
Politics is not a job, every politician will one day be former this or that, but, your legacy will speak even in death.
Yesterday, I was a guest to the Provost of College of Medicine, Imo State University Owerri, Prof Bond Anyaehie, as his new set of medical graduates were sworn in by the Registrar of MDCN, making it the second set in less than one year.
It could be recalled that these doctors stayed 10 years in the University for no fault of theirs when the college lost accreditation to admit new students.
I had some quiet reflections even as I watch one Dr Agu Emmanuel picked more than 5 awards as the best graduating student with nostalgia. Imo is blessed cerebrally and this is not in contest.
I listened to the Registrar, Dr Sanusi on why the accreditation was withdrawn and a window given for them to graduate these doctors. I agree totally with the Registrar that the health of the population is the priority in the accreditation of a medical school. Then I ask, why should the only medical school we have in Imo be in this quagmire?
It was just lack of leadership....simple and short
Prof Bond was brought from University of Nigeria to rescue the situation on Pro bono. He is an Imo son who understands the essence of using contacts and influence to help his state. He is going around looking for Imo sons and daughters with capacity to help the college, many on Pro bono. He knows Imo has a great reservoir of human resource for health and now taking good advantage of it.
The good news is NUC has come and MDCN will come back again and our Imo medical college will come back to live even with a better caring capacity God's willing.
Thank you the Imo State Government for identifying this talent. Thank you the Imo Health team of which many are not State Government employees, but, under the leadership of Dr Bartty Okorochukwu, The Hon Commissioner for Health on agreeing to work and support our state.. everything truly is not about money, let's help our state.
God bless Imo State.
