Owelle Anayo Rochas Okorocha, a former governor of Imo state and member representing Imo West in the National Assembly has rolled out plans to ensure that indigent Imo sons and daughters celebrate the Yuletide season with joy and laughter.
This kind gesture of Senator Okorocha is coming under the Rochas Foundation, using its Rochas Care program (ROCAP).
To ensure the equitable distribution of these gift items, a Special Committee of nine members headed by Hon Lugard Osuji of Owerri Municipal Council has been formed to carry out the charitable programe.
According to a release from the office of the Special Adviser to the Senator on Media, Chief Sam Onwuemedo, other members of the committee include Barr Ijeoma Igboanusi as secretary, Pastor Ralph Afoaku, Hon Mrs Ndidi Iheme, Mr Chikezie Nwadike and Mrs Carol Ochamba as members. Those to benefit includes:
1. The Vulnerable and Less Privileged Persons: The foundation will give N10, 000 cash & 25kg bag of rice to each of these individuals who fall under this category. These include, persons who might have lost hope of celebrating the Christmas due to lack of the basic things needed for the event or who do not have people to assist them.
Good spirited individuals and volunteers are to assist the Foundation by identifying these persons wherever they may be found in the state, by calling the Reach FM 104.9 radio studio telephone number, 09070001049 every day between the hours of 10am and 12noon and recommending them for the package during the live program. Beneficiaries will have the items delivered to them at their respective locations.
2. Transporters (Bus Imo/Taxi Imo/ Keke/ Okada) :The Foundation will provide free fuel for these commercial transport operators in Imo State. To ensure the smooth running of the exercise, the transporters mentioned above are advised to go to the Rochas Foundation Headquarters (Vision House), Okigwe road, Owerri to collect the fuel coupons and proceed to A.A. Rano petrol station at Port Harcourt road, Owerri for their fuel collections. The program will also commence daily between the hours of 8am and 10am for collection of coupons and 12pm to 2pm for collection of fuel, except on Sundays.
3. Families of Persons who Lost their Lives in the recent Insecurity in Imo State: The Foundation has also approved the sum of N100, 000 each to be given to the affected families as a result of security challenges in the state. These include, the families of both civilians and security personnel affected. The Foundation wishes to send a special condolence message to the families concerned” the release stated.
