Senator Rochas Okorocha, The Senator representing Imo West in the National Assembly is seeking for the establishment of a Federal University of Agriculture and Environmental Science in Ngor Okpala Local Government Area of the state.
Sen Okorocha's bill for the establishment of the Institution passed second reading on the floor of the Senate during Thursday's sitting. The bill was first read and passed on the 28th of September, 2021.
The Imo State former Governor said while addressing the Senate "Mr. President, Distinguished Colleagues, this bill is presented towards not only addressing the Educational needs of my people, but, will also serve as training ground for the development of Agriculture and Environmental landscape in the country.
He stated "Agriculture with it's allied sector is unquestionably the largest livelihood provider, more also in the rural areas and contribute significantly to gross domestic product. The demand for agricultural products are rising rapidly with increase population.
Owelle also state that the university will provide great development of agriculture and developmental education, knowledge, skills and vision that will help contribute enhance farmers income and generate employment to the sector. This will give students platform to enable the country achieve self sufficiency and reduce poverty
