OGSSIAN Port Harcourt Branch Holds 2021 Penultimate Monthly Meeting

The penultimate meeting of the Port Harcourt branch of the Old Boys association of Government Secondary School Owerri for the year 2021 held on Sunday, 21/11/2021 with glamour, glitz and flamboyance always associated whenever the monthly meeting holds.

The ever Eloquent Rev Prince Ibeh set the ball rolling with an opening prayer that shook the heavens. He asked for God's guidance and protection on every member of the association and committed the meeting in the hands of the Almighty God.

The chairman of the Old Boys branch, Dr. R. O. Ofuru, in his opening remarks welcomed Fellow Old Boys and their spouses who joined in for the November Spousal meeting, He thanked God for keeping everybody alive from January this year till now. He further said that the meeting is very strategic as it ushers in the' End of the Year Party' and called on members to key into the actualization of the event by making their payments and on time too.

After the corrections and observations of the last minutes of the association, Engr. Uneze Celestine adopted the minutes as a working document and was seconded by Rev Prince Ibeh.

The Chairman of the 'End of the Year Party' Dr. Onugha Paschal, took the center stage after being called upon by the chairman to give report on the planning of the annual event. After much deliberations and contributions by distinguished members present, the Chairman of the association, Dr. Ofuru, ruled that the party will go on as planned. He reminded members of an earlier agreement that "Even if a member dies during the year, that it won't stop the party from holding". Thereafter, the house gave a nod that the date of the party being the 4th of December, 2021 remain sacrosanct.

Dr Onugha enjoined members to continue to make payments as the turn up was not encouraging. As he was speaking, some members made transfers into the association account for the event as announced by the Chairman, Dr. Ofuru.

Some friends of the association led by Prof. Anthony Ibe, the former DVC Administration of the University of Port Harcourt, were welcomed by the chairman who thanked them for always coming to identify with OGSSIAN PH Branch.

Prof. E.O Nwachuku of the 1960 Class was officially announced by the chairman as the oldest member of the group. He said that all accolades and respect due to the oldest member will henceforth be given to the retired veteran Professor.

Dr Ofuru took members down memory lane on the many sacrifices and efforts of Prof Nwachuku to the development of OGSSIAN PH branch. Prof Nwachuku appreciated the chairman for his kind words, he encouraged the younger old boys to endeavor to do better than the older old boys. He said that will give him great happiness.

Three new members were welcomed to the Port Harcourt branch of the prestigious old boys of College.

Dr Ofuru remainded the gathering of a death of an active member of the branch. The deceased who was of the 1983 class passed on a day after he spoke to the forum chairman on switching services from Federal University of Technology Owerri FUTO to University of Port Harcourt. The burial will be coming up on the 17th of December,2021.

Members announced various individual events coming up and formally invited the house.

The penultimate meeting of Government Secondary School Owerri was hosted by the ever jovial Lord Mayor Chijoke Tasie.

The Lord Mayor did not disappoint as he thrilled members and spouses of OGSSIAN PH branch to lavish drinks and food. Everyone ate and drank as their stomach could hold. Members were seen eating very unusual combination in the buffet .

Engr. C.C Okoye thanked Lord Mayor Tasie and his family for hosting the November meeting. He cracked members up with some rib jecking jokes.

The meeting came to an end with the motion of adjournment moved by Mr Christopher Ucheobi and seconded by Mr Valentine Osuji.

Speaking to our correspondents, Spouses of the members expressed uncontrollable happiness and joy for being part of the meeting. They wished they could be coming monthly as members does.
