In its relentless efforts to sanitize the Capital City from operators of Shanties and illegal Street Traders, the State Government through Owerri Capital Development Authority is intensifying efforts through the construction of wire mesh in strategic parts of the State Capital.
Inspecting the wire mesh at the popular control roundabout on Tuesday, the Special Adviser and General Manager of Owerri Capital Development Authority (OCDA) Engr. Francis Chukwu reiterated that the State Government led by His Excellency Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma is desirous of ensuring that Owerri Capital Territory competes favourably in terms of aesthetics, sanity and decency with other notable cities globally hence the conceptualization of the project.
He noted that it is a measure by the Imo State Government to recover its verges which are in deplorable State due to illegal human activities, saying that Government will continue to carryout the Wire Mesh Project until it gets to all the nooks and crannies of the State capital.
According to the OCDA General Manager Engr. Francis Chukwu, "what also informed this is that we need to start the beautification of surroundings of projects being done by the Governor, His Excellency Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma.
The OCDA helmsman who added that the essence of putting in place the Wire Mesh is to restore the aesthetics of natural green grasses, announced that in few weeks time, OCDA will kick start the planting of grasses in all the covered verges.
The Governor's Aide used the medium to again implore the operators of Shanties and the illegal Street Traders within Control roundabout and its environs to move to the State Government designated markets in order to do their Businesses comfortably, safely and successfully, stressing that OCDA as the State Government Development Control Agency remains poised towards exploring every legal measure in order to stem the tide of proliferation of Shanties and Illegal Street Traders in the State capital.
