OCDA GM, ENGR. FRANCIS CHUKWU ADDRESSES BUS IMO DRIVERS AT HOSPITAL JUNCTION

The Special Adviser to the Governor and General Manager of Owerri Capital Development Authority (OCDA) Engr. Francis Chukwu has appealed to Bus Imo Drivers that engage in loading of their vehicles along the road at Hospital Junction Owerri to leave the roadside in order to ensure safety and sanity in the way and manner they carryout their businesses.

He stated this on Thursday in the course of the routine Operational Activities during which he met the Drivers in a meeting at the Hospital Junction. Engr. Chukwu who humbly sought their permission to address them while their meeting was ongoing called on them to be on a United front and collectively find a more suitable and decent place where they want the park to be situated around the area

Engr. Chukwu further described the operation of illegal parks as one of the actions that deface the beauty of the State Capital and harped on the inherent negativities associated with it such as inability to identify genuine and fake drivers that potray the transporters in a bad light, causing avoidable Traffic gridlock, exposing themselves and their passengers to dangers of accident and so on while listing the positives in operating legal parks to include: revenue generation for Government and their unions, knowing themselves always thereby easily fishing out the bad eggs that operate under the guise of Drivers to Rob and inflict pains on innocent citizens among others.

The Governor Aide reminded them that the State Government through the Agency had issued notices severally for them to stop operating at the various spots by the roadsides at Hospital junction while also recalling that he once visited the area with the Commissioner for Transport and mapped out an ideal place to serve as park for the Bus Drivers but expressed regret that all the efforts have not yielded the desired results.

Speaking on behalf of other Drivers, Mr. Ubasinachi Uzonwanne the Chairman Avu Junction Unit of the Drivers Association thanked the OCDA GM for coming to address them explaining that they no longer operate parks but units under the State Ministry of Transport while pointing out that they will cooperate with Government even as he hinted that one of the reasons for their meeting was to identity their authentic members with a view to having a United front for their transportation business.
