OCDA BEGINS CLEARING OF VERGE AT NAZE

In keeping with its Urban Renewal Policy and Recovery of illegally ocuppied lands, the Imo State Government through Owerri Capital Development Authority (OCDA) on Thursday commenced the clearing of verge at Naze Aba-Owerri road, in Owerri North LGA of the State.

While supervising the clearing exercise alongside the operational team, the OCDA General Manager Engr. Francis Chukwu stressed that the State Government took the action as a follow up to the operation reclaim Owerri Capital Territory from Shanties and illegal Structures and as part of the the Recovery agendum encapsulated in the 3R policy thrust of His Excellency Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma, maintaining that several notices were served the occupants of the Shanties and Illegal Structures before the commencement of the clearing exercise.

The Governor's Aide re-echoed that even after the Owerri City wide Awareness Campaign tagged "Operation Reclaim Owerri Capital City from Shanties and Illegal Structures." carried out by Imo State Government through the Agency in December, 2021, Government decided to still extend the grace period in accordance with the compassionate nature of the Governor Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma.

Engr. Chukwu who restated that Government had far before the commencement of the action provided designated markets for the operators of Shanties and illegal Structures to legitimately do their businesses, further used the medium to implore those that are still doing their businesses at the unapproved areas to adhere to Government directives by moving to the various designated markets in order to avert anything that will lead to destruction of properties in the course of enforcing Government orders whenever the need arises.
