Tragedy struck on Wednesday in Ogwuaga autonomous community in Nwangele Local Government Area of Imo state as gunmen shot and killed a member of a vigilante group in that part of the state.
The vigilante member identified as Mr. Fidelis Nnadi, we gathered was killed by gunmen who were on a run after a kidnapped incident they were involved in, along the Okwelle- Umuezealaibe road.
The gunmen who had kidnapped a woman with her child initially were riding pass the community to their destination when they spotted and recognized Mr. Nnadi as one of the vigilante members in the community. Out of fear of an attack by the deceased,the men of the underworld drove towards him and shot him at a very close range on the chest and sped off.
Nnadi was said to be on his way home after going to buy some stuffs from a neighbouring Local Government Area when he met his killers.
When our field man visited the community of the late vigilante personal, he reported that the villagers were in a very sorrowful mood, as many he spoke to described the late Nnadi as a good man that always minds his business, many said that he was always available to render help whenever he was called upon. They expressed shock on his death.
Imoflash correspondent also noticed ferocious tension and fear has enveloped the community as residents gather in small units discussing the unfortunate incident. There was increased security presence in the area.
CSP Michael Abattam, Imo state Police PRO, when contacted confirmed the incident,but said that details are very sketchy now. He said he won't say much till he gets all the information
