On Thursday, 9th December 2021, the Special Adviser to the Governor of Imo State on Youth Affairs, Hon Eric Uwakwe led Notable Youth Leaders in the State on a working visit to the Office of The Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency NDLEA In the State.

Hon Eric was accompanied by the SA, Culture and Creative Arts, Comr. Bobby Micheal, the APC Chairman Mbaitoli, Hon. Chinonye Agogbuo, Immediate Past APC Youth Leader, Imo State, Odogwu Deka the State Chairman of Nigeria Youth Congress, Barr. Eunan Emeka, Founder, Imo Comrades Community, Comr. Godson Bishop Okereke, Head of Operations, Imo Youth Centre, Hon. Chidozie Peter, the Women Leader, Imo Youth Centre, Hon. Amaka Osunde and a host of concerned Imo Youth Leaders across the State.

The visit was targeted at curbing the menace of drug abuse in the State with the prominent and very disturbing use of Methaphethamine Cocaine popularly known as Mkpurummiri (Ice).

The SA Youths bitterly expressed his displeasure at the growing rate of drug abuse in the South East and reiterated his commitment and that of the 3R Government to partner strongly with the Drug Law Enforcement Agency to fight against what is gradually destroying the Youth community in the State.

The NDLEA Commander of Narcotics, Imo State, Mr Apeh Reuben however acknowledged the commitment of the State Government in fighting this ticking time bomb and presented a 3 Point Agenda the Imo State command are embarking on to put an end to the production and use of methaphetamine cocaine.

“The steps we are taking to curb this are, the involvement of traditional rulers in the 3 senatorial dristricts in the State for public sensitization and information dissemination, and the involvement of the Government to easily access the areas where we are restricted from entering”

He also informed the Youths that the NDLEA has raided and destroyed 18 laboratories where Methaphetamine is being produced in the State and charged the Youths to back the visit with action.

At the end of the visit, a working relationship and partnership was established for the fight against drug abuse in the Heartland of our dear nation, Nigeria.
