Imo state university Owerri, yesterday inducted another set of Doctors, the second bath this year. This is also the first time the University is inducting two sets of medical graduands in a year.
The Induction is the second induction for over five years, as the college of medicine of the University lost National University commission NUC accreditation and haven't admitted students for Five years running.
Speaking at the event, the Acting Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Peter Achunike Akah, told the gathering that with the induction of the 56 new medical doctors, the University has inducted a total of 131 doctors this year.
While urging the New Doctors not to leave for greener pastures immediately, Prof Akah said " My dear Doctors, let me appeal to you not to be in a hurry to run away, I know UK, Canada, Saudi Arabia and many other countries are all looking for you because you are one of the best trained in the world".
He said that his dream is to make the College of Medicine of the University the best in the East of the Niger. He expressed opportunism that with the NUC coming for accreditation a few weeks ago, the College of Medicine will soon regain their accreditation.
The Dean of Clinical Medicine, Dr. Uwakwe appreciated the Governor of Imo state, Hope Uzodimma for granting the University waiver to employ new staff in order to meet up with NUC accreditation.
Acknowledging that normalcy is returning to the College of Medicine was the Chief Medical Director of the University Teaching Hospital, Dr Ifeanyi Nwamba. The CMD assured that soonest, the students of the college will be graduating within the stipulated time of 6years meant for the study of medicine nationwide.
Dr Nwamba told the graduands that the Teaching Hospital is open for Houseman ship to any of them that might find the place appealing to work in. The Guest Speaker, Dr Benjamin Anyanwu spoke on the topic; YOU CANNOT LOVE WITHOUT GIVING.
He narrated the relationship between Love and Giving and ended up telling the audience to "Never forget to love while giving".
The Registry of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, recalled how MDCN almost blacklisted the college of medicine of the University because of lack of commitment by the past administrations of the Institution.
He expressed hope that with the new administration ginger to work, the future looks bright for the College again. He promised to work in synergy with the authorities of the University to ensure that accreditation is returned to the school.
Awards were presented to deserving graduands, with Dr Agu Ifeanyi Emmanuel sweeping most of the prices.
In his valedictory, Dr Emmanuel went down memory lane on how he and most of his colleagues almost lost hope in the whole process. He thanked God for such a day and wished himself and follow Emerald set of Doctors, the very best.
Speaking to ImoFlash correspondents after the event, the Provost of the College of Medicine, Prof. Ugochukwu Anyaehie thanked the VC of the University who is also a medical doctor for always giving a listening ear to the college.
He hopes for the ban on the college admission of students be lifted as soon as possible.
