Imo State Federal Road Safety Corps partners with Drug Free World Africa DFWA in ensuring hitch free Drug Abuse Campaign Rally and Seminar.

Mr Oluwafemi Joshua Adekanye, fsi, Sector Commander Rs9.4, of the Federal Road Safety Corps FRSC, Imo state command has assured of the sector's unflinching support towards eradicating Drugs and substances abuse from the society, especially, during the forthcoming Drug Free World Africa DFWA campaign rally and Seminar against Drug Abuse holding on the 26th and 27th of January 2022.

The commandant made this known during a courtesy call by the Representatives of Drug Free World Africa DFWA, to the command's state headquarter in Owerri. He decried the level of proliferation of harmful substances in the society and called on Religious and traditional bodies, schools and indeed everybody to join in the fight against the ugly scenario.

Mr Adekanye categorized the fight against Drugs and substances abuse into two, Formal and informal. He nominated a staff of the command to be part of the daily planning of the event to ensure it is hitch free.

Earlier in her speech, the team coordinator of DFWA, Hon. Dr Lina Okereke who also is the Special Adviser to the Imo state Governor on Health, blamed poor parenting, peer group pressure, ignorance and 'I want to Belong syndrome' as some of the causes the youths engage in the abuse of drugs and substances.

She sought for alliance with the sector. " We are here to seek for alliance with you and your team towards DFWA campaign rally and Seminar holding on the 26th and 27th of January 2022. We are aware of the hazards posed by this hideous attitude by most of our youths.

"Most youths from our interactions with them, gets involved in Drug abuse due to influence, poor parenting and the taste to BELONG amongst their peers. Once any of them get involved the first time and feels good, the tendency is that they will like to do that again" Dr Lina said.

She enumerated some other intakes the youths are having now.

Drug Free World Africa presented some publicity materials to Imo State command of Federal Road Safety Corps FRSC.

Present at the event were, Head of Operations, FRSC Imo State, Mrs Chikwe Njoku Ngozi, AHR, Mr A.E Amadikwa, Head of Logistics, Mr. D Abdul, INT officer, Mr Ekpe Mattew, Chief Protocol, Miss Ada, State coordinator of Imo Health Volunteers, Chief Sixtus Ejimadu and DFWA State PRO, Mr Offor Davidson
