Imo State bans blocking of Roads for Events in Owerri

The Honourable Commissioner for Transport, Barr. Rex Anunobi through the Imo State Traffic Management Authority(ISTMA) has banned blocking of public roads for the purposes of entertainment, celebration of any kind which includes cultural festivals and religious activities, etc.

The Public Transit Inspector and Coordinator of ISTMA, Comr. Frank Uche and his men took the message round the state capital to inform and enlighten the people and in particular at Ajoku street today where he met those flaunting the Commissioner’s order.

While he frowned at the organisers of the programme that blocked the road, he used the opportunity to inform them that if such an occasion will warrant a road block, they should inform ISTMA in order for them to create an alternate route for motorists else they will face the law.

Comr. Frank Uche decried the level of untold hardship caused by these organisers on public roads over a private event and warned that whether indigene or not, ISTMA must be informed or risk putting off your event.

He further appealed to the public not to indulge in acts that will ridicule the efforts of the state government especially as it concerns road traffic and promised that ISTMA will continue to do all it takes to serve the people of the state in line with its mandate.
