Members of Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Obowo Local Government Area branch, led by Mrs Josephine Agbakwuru, on Wednesday, paid a courtesy visit to the speaker of Imo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Barr Kennedy Chidozie Ibeh, in his Umuokeh country home.
The teachers, who were excited that an Obowo son was elected the Speaker, also used the opportunity to make a list of demand from him.
Their demands includes: Provision of Public Address System (PAS), Renovation of NUT Secretariat, Extension of teachers service years from 35-40 and retirement age from 60-65, non payment of salaries among others.
Responding, The speaker, thanked them for thinking it wise to pay him a visit. He noted that teachers are well groomed, thoughtful and easy to understand matters of critical importance.
While enumerating the importance of the speakership position, Rt. Hon Kennedy Ibeh, said that Obowo got the speakership position because it was already prepared by having a ranking member in the IMHA. He promised to use the position and ensure that both the teachers and the entire Obowo people get their fair share of what is due to them.
He therefore urged the teachers to continue teaching both in class and out of class.
The speaker assured them that NUT Obowo secretariat will soon get adequate attention. He promised to interface with other organs and agencies of government to ensure that all other request they made will be met.
