Imo Government seals Umuguma Erosion Control Site
Following a report of encroachment into State Government property, operatives of Owerri Capital Development Authority, OCDA, in a swift action sealed up an erosion control site at Ogba Osisi Umuguma community in Owerri West LGA of Imo State.
The Special Adviser/General Manager of the agency Engr. Francis Chukwu who led the operation for the sealing up of the ongoing structures at the site said it violates the master plan of the metropolis, stressing that the valley is used as a channel for flooding to manage erosion menace.
Disclosing Governor Uzodimma's desire to manage flood crisis in the metropolis with the introduction of Balloon Technology, he stated that structures which will affect drainage system will not be approved.
The Traditional ruler of Umuguma ancient kingdom, HRM Eze George Ugorji, expressed surprise at the structures being erected at the site, as he denied knowledge of it and hinted that he once ordered the contractor to stop work.
An indigene of Umuguma, Dennis Onuawuchi, said that the erosion site has been in existence for over 10 years, wondered why the buyer will erect such structures blocking the drainage system of the community.
