Imo Government Promises to partner with NMA

The State Government has promised to partner with the Nigerian Medical Association NMA, Imo State Branch, for a seamless collaboration in moving the health sector forward.

The Hon. Commissioner for Health, Dr. Prosper-Ohayagha Success, made the promise when a delegation of the Association paid him a courtesy visit in his office.

Dr. Prosper-Ohayagha, who is also a member of the Association commended them for being partners in progress with the state government in the development of the health sector.

On the issue of multiple taxations and court cases, between the Association and the Imo Internal Revenue Service (IIRS) the Commissioner urged them to write him officially on the matter so that he can meet with the officials of the IIRS for out of Court settlement as soon as possible to avoid crisis.

He assured them of the Ministry's readiness to work in synergy with the Association for a better welfare of the doctors and to meet the health needs of Imolites.

Earlier in his speech, the Chairman of the Association, Dr. Chidiebere Okwara, on behalf of the members, expressed their gratitude to the Governor Dist. Senator Hope Uzodinma, for again appointing one of them the Commissioner for Health.

Dr. Okwara, congratulated Dr. Prosper-Ohayagha, on his appointment and prayed God to strengthen him so that he would achieve the goals for which he was appointed.

He recalled that as a member of the Covid-19 task force, the Hon. Commissioners contributions made the state to be adjudged the best in the pandemic response in Nigeria.

The Chairman appealed to the Commissioner to look into the court cases between the Association and the state Government on multiple taxations stressing that if not properly handled could lead to crisis that will affect the health sector.

He disclosed that some fees such as the renewal fee paid by the Association into the Treasury Single Account (TSA) were wrongly channeled to Ministry of Commerce and Industry internally Generated Revenue (IGR) instead of Ministry of Health, he therefore enjoined the Commissioner to look into it for proper documentation.

Dr. Okwara pledged their support for the Government and Ministry for the development of the health sector and the betterment of Imolites.

In a vote of thanks, Dr. Amanze Ibekwe, appreciated the Commissioner for the opportunity he gave them to interact with him.

Dr. Ibekwe appealed to him to ensure that the Imo State Health Insurance Scheme becomes functional as soon as possible.

He prayed God to grant wisdom and strength in the discharge of his duties.
