The residence of Anara in Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of Imo state were caught unawares on Tuesday night as some unprovoked Gunmen attacked the Local market killing three on the spot and injuring scores of people.
One of the severely injured person gave up the later at a nearby hospital where he was rushed to. The unfortunate incident we gathered happened around 10 pm on Tuesday.
According to an eye witness, Uzoma, the Gunmen who were driving passed the market in a Sienna vehicle, suddenly stopped and started shooting recklessly at the direction of the market.
“The gunmen drove in a white Sienna vehicle. As they approached the market, they opened fire towards the direction where a woman sells food, three people died on the spot and several others were wounded from the gunshots, I learnt that another man died in the hospital." Uzoma said.
When Imoflash reached the community,we noticed a high level of apprehensiveness as residents gathered in small circles to discuss the unimaginable experience.
There are increased presence of Security men in and around the community as the busy market was disserted.
The corpses of the deceased were evacuated to a nearby mortuary by some community members.
Efforts to speak with the Traditional Ruler of the community wasn't successful as he was unavailable as at the time of filing this report.
There are no reasons for the attack by the gunmen as everyone in the area slept with eye closed the night before and according to what we gathered, it might remain like that for sometime to come.
The police through the spokesperson for the state, Micheal Abattam, said that the state Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Hussaini, had ordered an investigation into the killings.
