Flash: Catholic Arch-Diocese of Owerri gets new Arch -Bishop
Papal Nuncio has announced at the ongoing Catholic Bishop Conference of Nigeria Plenary session at Abuja, the appointment of His Lordship, Bishop Lucius Ugorji of Umuahia Diocese as the new Archbishop of Owerri to take over from Archbishop Anothy JV Obinna.
His Holiness, Pope Francis also approved the voluntary retirement of His Grace, AJV Obinna as Archbishop of Owerri Archdiocese.
Arch Bishop Obinna was Ordained as a priest on 1972, he incardinated in the Diocese of Owerri. Pope John Paul II appointed him as the Bishop of Owerri Diocese in 1993. He was consecrated by bishop Carlo Maria Viganò on the following 4 September. On 26 March 1994 he was appointed as the first archbishop of Owerri, taking over from Bishop Mark Unegbu
