Exercise GOLDEN DAWN: Catholic Bishop attempted kidnap thwarted by Troops in Imo state

An attempted kidnap of Most Rev.Dr. Augustine Ukwuoma, the Catholic Bishop of Orlu Diocese has been thwarted by Troops of the Exercise GOLDEN DAWN.

The attempted abduction happened at Orlu Diocesan Catholic Secretariat Orlu, Imo State. This was disclosed In a statement by by the Director of Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu on Sunday.

General Nwachukwu said that "The troops, had a distress call around 2:30 am on Sunday, and in response swiftly moved to the scene forcing the assailants to take off." The Bishop, his Secretary, Assistant Secretary and other occupants of the attacked house are safe and unhurt.

There are increased Security Personal around the Bishop's residence at the moment.

The Director enjoined members of the public to work in senergy with the security agencies to fish out the hide out of miscreants and hoodlums. He said that there are attempts to kidnap Elite Citizens for ransom,but, assured that the security agencies are up to the task

“The troops will continue to fight against criminal gangs operating within the sector especially as the elections in Anambra State draws nearer and during the yuletide season.” General Onyema said.
