Imo state Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma has urged the people of Imo state living outside the state to come home for the Yuletide season, assuring them that the state is safe as security agencies are working tooth and nail to ensure a hitch free celebration.
The governor made the call during the 2021 State Christmas Carol organized by the State Government at the Government House Chapel, Owerri.
The Governor also used the celebration to call on Christians to remember the reason for the season, noting that most Christians has left the spiritual angle of the season and are now focusing on the material things.
Uzodimma urged Imolites to rededicate themselves to the love to of the state, pleading with those causing troubles in the state to use the celebration of the birth of Christ to turn a new leaf and work for the unity of the state.
Senator Uzodimma said that "Let me announce to Imo people that your stay and your state is relatively peaceful for the celebration of the Yuletide season with your loved ones,the security agencies have been working round the clock to ensure that you are neither intimidated or attacked during the festival.
He also used the opportunity to highlight how the state and security operatives are mopping up the criminals den. "Few days ago, security agencies stormed one of the criminals hide out and flushed them out,the operation will continue in the nooks and crannies of the state.
The carol witnessed melodious rendition from the Government House choir and lots of choirs from every part of the state. Intercessory prayers were said by various Bishops present for the Governor and people of the state.
In attendance were the Wife of the Governor, Barr. Chioma Uzodimma,The deputy Governor, Prof. Placid Njoku and his wife, Dr. Mrs Bola Njoku, The speaker of the House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Kennedy Ibeh, APC State Chairman, Hon. MacDonald Ebere, members of the state Executive Council, Members of the House of Assembly, Clergymen and hosts of other dignitaries.
